Crete -> Chania - Χανιά
Perfecture of Chania is on the west side of Crete. A walk on the old town inside the fort and the old port with the lighthouse is lovely. Some of the best beaches on the island are in this area, including - but not limited to -, Platanias at north, Balos/ Gramvoussa and northwest, Falasarna at west, Elafonisi and Frangokastelo at south. The rest of the area is occupied by "Lefka Ori", meaning white mountains. The most magnificent gorges of the island are here, including the well-known Samaria gorge.
