Antipaxi (Antipaxos) - Αντίπαξοι (Αντίπαξος)

Antipaxi (or Antipaxos) is a tiny, pristine jewel of the Ionian Sea, located just three kilometers south of Paxi and famous for having some of the most beautiful waters in the entire Mediterranean. Spanning only five square kilometers, this peaceful islet is almost entirely covered in thick vineyards, olive groves, and wild mastic trees. With a permanent population of fewer than 50 people, there are no hotels, public buses, or real roads here—only narrow, stone-walled dirt tracks connecting a handful of rustic summer cottages. Day-trippers arriving by water taxi are greeted by an island frozen in time, where the complete absence of commercial development offers a pure, uninterrupted escape into nature.

The main reason travelers flock to Antipaxi is its two world-famous beaches, Vrika and Voutoumi, which are frequently compared to the Caribbean due to their vibrant tropical colors. Vrika features fine, powdery white sand underfoot, while Voutoumi is a striking crescent of smooth white pebbles that give way to a soft sand seabed. When the sunlight hits the shallow water over the pale limestone rock, the sea glows with a brilliant, neon-turquoise hue so clear that boats appear to be floating on air. Visitors can spend the day swimming in the calm, translucent bays, enjoying fresh seafood at the few seasonal cliffside tavernas, and exploring the quiet interior paths before the last water taxis head back to Paxi at sunset.
